  • Tuesday, October 8: Herbalism and tea-making workshop with Bisharo, 4-6pm at the Rose Garden (1900 Portland Ave). Come make yummy homemade tea with us! Bring your own mug if you can.
  • Tuesday, October 15: Jam-making workshop with Simone from 5:30-7:30pm at the Jourdain (511 E. Franklin Ave). Simone will lead us in making and canning homemade strawberry jam with local strawberries! Participants will get to take home a jar of jam.   • Tuesday, October 22: Regular weekly garden night from 4-6pm! Help us clean up the gardens and put the gardens to bed for the season.
  • Saturday, October 26: Fall Harvest Festival from 10am-12pm at the Rose Garden! Join us for food, garden work, face-painting, music, and fall festivities. All are welcome!

Recommendation 2410-1: To approve the expenditure of up to $500 for shirts for the “Bus Stop Guardians”.

Recommendation 2410-2: To support the expansion plans (as presented) for the Our Saviour’s Shelter.

Recommendation 2410-3: Move that Ventura Village uses the same budget for 2025 as 2024 for the NCR application.

Recommendation 2410-4: If the city will accept the 2024 Equitable Engagement Application without revisions to be used for 2025 then we won’t submit changes. But if we have to submit a 2025 revised application then we accept Ray’s submission.

July 2024 General Membership Minutes

Ventura Village General Membership Meeting

The meeting was called to order at 7:03pm by Vice-Chair Elizabeth Ihde
Those present at the meeting introduced themselves. Throughout the meeting 11 members attended. Lt. Carroll (MPD) and Kali Pliego (CPS) gave the CCP/SAFE Crime & Safety Update. Khalid Mohamed gave the City Council Update.

Motion: (Watson/Ji. Graham) Approval of the July 10, 2024 proposed agenda. Passed (8 yes/0 no/0 abstain)

Motion: (Peterson/Ji. Graham) Approval of the June 12, 2024 minutes. Passed (10 yes/0 no/0 abstain)

Motion: (Peterson/Ji. Graham) Recommendation 2407-1: To request that Council Member Osman vote in favor of raising police salaries. Passed (9 yes/0 no/1 abstain)

Motion: (Watson/Peterson) Recommendation 2407-2: To ask the City to stop enabling the encampment along Franklin Avenue under the Hiawatha (Highway 55) bridge and to send copies of this request to Hennepin County, MN Department of Transportation (MDOT) , the Metropolitan Council, and the Governor’s office. Passed (10 yes/0 no/0 abstain)

Motion: (Ji. Graham/Watson) Recommendation 2407-3:To reallocate uncontracted NRP Phase II funds as follows:

a) Reallocate $14,799 from 1.2.1 Homeowner Fix-up Grant Program to Phase II Plan Implementation

b) Reallocate $1,096.75 from 1.2.10 Banners along Franklin Ave. to Phase II Plan Implementation

c) Amend Ventura Village Contract 25585 to add $15,895 (above funds) to the “Supplies” line item of the Phase II Plan Implementation budget Passed (10 yes/0 no/1 abstain)

Motion: (Watson/Peterson) Action: To ask the Metropolitan Council to temporarily stop placing bus shelters on Franklin Avenue until the crime problems taking place at the current shelters have stopped. Passed (11 yes/0 no/0 abstain)
